The Federal Government has approved ₦1.85 billion to sustain the education, rehabilitation, and reintegration of the rescued Chibok girls under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The initiative, jointly managed by the Federal Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Women Affairs, will run until 2027, covering tuition, accommodation, feeding, vocational training, medical care, and psychosocial support.
At present, 68 of the girls are enrolled at the American University of Nigeria (AUN), Yola—owned by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar—while others continue to receive tailored assistance. Despite political divides, the government has consistently maintained funding for their education.
Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, said the intervention demonstrates Nigeria’s determination to turn a national tragedy into a narrative of resilience. “This is not just about money—it is a pledge to protect the dignity of our children. Education must rise above partisan politics,” he emphasized.
The ₦1.85bn programme will provide:
Tuition and accommodation (2024–2027)
Skills development, vocational training, and starter packs
Medical and surgical care
Psychosocial and parental support
NHIS enrolment and monitoring
Logistics, feeding, and essential supplies
The ministry stressed that the comprehensive plan is designed to ensure the girls are not forgotten but empowered to rebuild their futures and contribute meaningfully to the nation.
The Federal Government further called on Nigerians across political lines to support the effort, stating: “True leadership is measured by concrete action, not empty criticism.”
