President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday received a delegation of North East governors led by Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The meeting centered on critical regional issues, including the urgent completion of 17 long-abandoned road projects and the resumption of oil exploration in frontier wells, particularly Kolmani and Lake Chad.
In attendance were Governors Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya (Gombe), Bala Muhammad (Bauchi), Mai Mala Buni (Yobe), Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri (Adamawa), and Agbu Kefas (Taraba).
Speaking on behalf of the forum, Zulum, who chairs the North East Governors Forum, urged the president to complete ongoing road projects and prioritize major highways linking the six states.
The listed projects include the Kano-Maiduguri Road, Port Harcourt-Jos-Bauchi-Maiduguri Railway, Bama-Mubi-Yola Road, Wukari-Jalingo-Yola Road, Bauchi-Gombe-Biu-Damaturu Road, Damaturu-Geidam Road, Gombe-Potiskum Road, Maiduguri-Damboa-Yola Road, among others.
Zulum commended the president’s efforts in restoring peace to the sub-region, assuring him of the governors’ support for federal initiatives on manpower development, technology deployment, and agricultural transformation.
“Mr President, the North East governors hold you in high esteem, and all of us have resolved to partner with you to provide good governance and leave behind lasting legacies for Nigeria,” Zulum said.
In response, Tinubu acknowledged their concerns and reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to tackle developmental challenges in the region.
