The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that 1,379,342 Nigerians completed online pre-registration for the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) within the first week of the exercise.
INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mr. Sam Olumekun, disclosed this on Monday in Abuja. The online pre-registration began on Monday, August 18, with the first update covering activities up to Sunday, August 24.
According to the figures, Osun State led with 393,823 registrants (28.51%), followed by Lagos with 222,205 (16.11%), while Ebonyi recorded the lowest with 261 (0.02%). Gender distribution showed 661,846 males (47.96%) and 717,856 females (52.04%).
Young Nigerians aged 18–34 made up the majority with 860,286 (62.37%), while 374,534 (27.15%) were students. Registrants with disabilities stood at 27,089 (1.96%).
Olumekun reminded citizens that physical registration has also commenced across 811 state and local government offices nationwide, allowing those who began the process online to complete it in person. He stressed that the exercise is only for Nigerians aged 18 and above who have not previously registered, warning against multiple registrations.
He added that voters can also transfer their registration or replace lost and damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) during the CVR, which will run until August 30, 2026. However, he advised against waiting until the last minute, noting that registration centres are usually overwhelmed close to the deadline.
