The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a stern warning to members openly supporting President Bola Tinubu, urging them to desist from such actions or face tougher disciplinary measures.
In a statement released on Friday by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, the party condemned the behaviour of some members whose public endorsements of Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) it described as “anti-party” and a violation of the party’s constitution.
The NWC cited Section 59(1) of the PDP Constitution as the basis for its warning and stated that such conduct poses a serious threat to the party’s unity and electoral strength ahead of future elections.
“These anti-party activities have continued to negatively impact the PDP, causing internal divisions, member defections, and the weakening of the party’s electoral chances if left unchecked,” the statement read.
It specifically referenced Section 10(6) of the party’s constitution, which prohibits members from aligning with other political parties or groups in ways that undermine the PDP or any of its elected governments.
The caution comes in the wake of recent endorsements of President Tinubu’s second-term bid by top PDP figures, including former Ekiti State governor Ayodele Fayose and Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke.
Fayose had publicly declared his support for Tinubu and APC’s Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, during an APC event on July 28, 2025. Similarly, Governor Adeleke, while reaffirming his loyalty to the PDP, announced that both he and the Osun PDP backed Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, citing the President’s Osun State origin.
Amid these controversies, the NWC called on members to remain steadfast and focus on rebuilding the party. It also urged full commitment toward the successful hosting of the upcoming PDP National Convention, scheduled for November 15–16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State.
