Reno Omokri, a former aide to the president, claimed that Peter Obi, the ex-Governor of Anambra State, was chosen as the running mate for the former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in 2019 due in large part to the influence of significant associates of former President Goodluck Jonathan. Omokri shared this information on social media yesterday, stating that Obi had sent his curriculum vitae (CV) without prompting and had repeatedly called to inquire whether it had been reviewed.
“We put Peter Obi forward as Atiku’s running mate in 2019. He sent me his CV out of the blue and called me to check if I had seen it,” said Omokri, who also warned that he would provide further proof if Obi denied this assertion.
He noted, “I don’t have a particular fondness for Peter Obi, but I supported him in the past due to my loyalty to former President Jonathan.”
This statement has generated varied responses online, with some questioning the intentions behind the disclosure and others encouraging political figures to concentrate on development rather than personal attacks. As of last night’s news deadline, Obi had not responded to the allegations.
