The Nigerian Army has welcomed 6,195 newly enlisted soldiers into its ranks as part of a renewed initiative to strengthen national security and address issues like insurgency, banditry, and other emerging threats nationwide.
This event follows the Passing Out Parade (PoP) for the 88 Regular Recruits Intake (RRI) at the Depot Nigerian Army in Zaria, Kaduna State, where the recruits were officially integrated into the Army after completing six months of intensive basic military training.
During the vibrant ceremony, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede urged the new soldiers to embody the Nigerian Army’s core values: discipline, loyalty, integrity, selfless service, courage, and respect for others.
“This is more than just another parade; it signifies a crucial milestone for each soldier. Today marks the onset of your duty to Nigeria. You are joining a professional force dedicated to defending our territorial integrity, restoring peace in conflict zones, and participating in international peacekeeping efforts,” he stated.
Oluyede emphasized that the recruits, who began training on January 13, 2025, would be deployed promptly to various operational areas across the nation, highlighting the need for fresh personnel in light of current security challenges.
“There is a clear necessity for more personnel on the ground, considering the challenges we face today. We believe that with their deployment, we can achieve a more secure nation and improved effectiveness in our operational areas,” he remarked.
The Army Chief recognized the difficulties and sacrifices associated with military life but reassured the recruits of their thorough preparation for the tasks ahead. He underscored that professionalism, resilience, and teamwork would be essential for their success in the field.
“To succeed in combat, you must apply all that you have learned. Your bravery and professionalism will be tested. However, you will not be alone—you will have your fellow soldiers by your side, and the entire Army leadership will support you,” he noted.
General Oluyede praised the Commandant and instructors at the Depot Nigerian Army for their dedication to transforming the recruits into professional soldiers. He also thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, along with the Minister of Defence, Chief of Defence Staff, and the Kaduna State Government for their ongoing support.
Additionally, he acknowledged the Emir of Zazzau, His Royal Highness Ambassador Ahmad Nuhu Bamalli, for his hospitality and partnership with the Army, emphasizing that the Nigerian Army would remain a reliable ally in promoting peace and development in Zaria and throughout Kaduna State.
