The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, announced that 10,000 police constables, who were recruited last year, will be assigned to their home states to engage in community policing. This information was shared by the Nigerian Police Force’s Spokesperson, ACP Olumiyiwa Adejobi, on Thursday.
The newly graduated constables completed six months of training at various police colleges. Egbetokun stated that the Force aims for an annual recruitment of 30,000 officers, as approved by President Bola Tinubu.
During the Passing Out Parade at the Police Training School in Bauchi, the Inspector General emphasized that these new recruits would enhance the capacity of the Nigeria police as they are deployed to their home states for community policing.
Represented by Auwal Muhammad, the Commissioner of Police for Bauchi State, Egbetokun urged the 10,000 constables to maintain professionalism, fairness, and friendliness in their duties. He noted that the ceremony was held at four premier colleges and 12 Police Training Schools across the country.
“This event marks the end of an intensive six-month training that has tested the recruits both physically and intellectually,” he stated. “The Passing-Out Parade signifies a crucial turning point for these individuals, as they transition into professional police officers, leaving behind their civilian lives to pursue a career in service.”
Egbetokun emphasized that throughout their training, the constables were equipped with the skills necessary to tackle the country’s complex security issues while upholding legal standards. He added, “Our well-researched curriculum has prepared them with essential policing ethics, norms, and modern law enforcement principles.”
The IG expressed confidence in the graduating class, expecting them to uphold the values learned during their training and support the improvement of law enforcement in Nigeria. Egbetokun concluded by highlighting that the President’s endorsement for the annual recruitment of 30,000 constables will reinforce internal security, enhance police effectiveness, and ensure better police service delivery across the nation.
