by Tunexreporters

President Bola Tinubu has approved Dr. Kayode Opeifa as the new Managing Director of the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC). Opeifa previously served as the Commissioner for Transportation in Lagos State under Governor Babatunde Fashola and was later appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari to address the ongoing traffic issues in Apapa. He was named Vice-Chairman of the Presidential Task Team (PTT), which was led by former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, focusing on resolving the severe congestion around Lagos ports.

In his new role, Opeifa takes over from Ben Iloanusi, the acting Managing Director, who succeeded Fidet Okhiria, the previous Managing Director, who completed his second term on October 18, 2024. Opeifa gained recognition for his work as Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, where he implemented initiatives that modernized the city’s transport system, enhancing traffic management and setting a standard for urban transportation across Africa. His successful contributions to the sector led to his subsequent appointment as Transport Secretary for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) by President Buhari.
