by Tunexreporters

On Tuesday, President Bola Tinubu and Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike convened a private meeting with a group of Ogoni leaders, headed by Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

Among those in attendance were the President’s Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, Group CEO of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) Mele Kyari, Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris, along with various other ministers and aides.

This meeting followed a request from a coalition of civil society groups advocating for a $1 trillion allocation from the Federal Government for the cleanup of the Niger Delta and compensation for lost livelihoods before crude oil production resumes in Ogoniland. Additionally, it occurred during an ongoing conflict between Fubara and Wike, former political allies, with Wike having recently served as governor of the oil-rich South-South state.
