The Yobe State Police Command has begun a search operation for an 18-year-old woman, identified as Khadija Jamilu, over her alleged involvement in a violent altercation with her husband in Potiskum Local Government Area.
According to police information, the incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of Friday, when the young woman allegedly used a knife to attack her 25-year-old husband, inflicting severe injury to his genital region during a domestic disagreement.
Police spokesperson, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, disclosed that officers attached to the Potiskum Divisional Headquarters responded to an emergency report concerning the incident. The attack was said to have happened around 1:00 a.m. on February 6, 2026.
The injured victim was initially treated at the State Specialist Hospital in Potiskum before being referred to the Federal Medical Centre in Azare, Bauchi State, where he is currently receiving further medical care. Authorities confirmed that the suspect fled after the incident, adding that efforts are ongoing to locate and arrest her while investigations continue.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado, stressed that marriage should be based on respect, patience, and understanding, warning that violence should never be part of marital relationships. He also advised couples to seek counselling, practice dialogue during conflicts, and involve trusted mediators where necessary to avoid tragic outcomes.
The police further called on community leaders and families to educate young people on healthy relationships, peaceful conflict resolution, and responsible marital conduct.
