Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on Wednesday secured the Accord Party’s nomination for the August 8, 2026 governorship election.
Adeleke, who ran unopposed in the primary conducted in Osogbo, received 145 of the 150 delegate votes from the state’s 30 local government areas. Five ballots were declared invalid.
Announcing the results, Abdulazeez Salaudeen, secretary of the party’s electoral committee, confirmed that the voting process was monitored by agents of the aspirant and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission. He declared Senator Nurudeen Ademola Adeleke the winner, having obtained the highest number of valid votes.
The primary was attended by Adeleke, his deputy Kola Adewusi, and several government appointees, with a strong presence of security personnel including armed police officers and DSS operatives. INEC officials were also on ground to observe the exercise.
Noticeably absent were top PDP figures in the state, such as the party chairman Sunday Bisi, Speaker Wale Egbedun, state lawmakers, and PDP National Assembly members.
The Accord Party’s national chairman, Maxwell Mgbudem, led the party leadership to the primary.
Adeleke had announced his move to the Accord Party on Tuesday, revealing that he joined the party on November 6 after extensive consultations. He said Accord’s welfarist ideology aligns with his commitment to prioritising citizens’ and workers’ wellbeing, and he vowed to continue delivering good governance and democratic dividends.
