Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, and all members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State have switched their allegiance to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
This transition was announced on Wednesday in Asaba, the capital of Delta State, by Senator James Manager following a lengthy six-hour meeting at Government House.
Manager remarked, “All PDP members in the state, including the current governor, former Governor Okowa, the Speaker, the party chairman, local government chairmen, and others, have all agreed to join the APC. We cannot keep sailing in a sinking vessel.”
Delta State Information Commissioner, Mr. Aniagwu Charles, also confirmed the governor’s defection and the collective decision of Delta PDP leaders and stakeholders to transition to the APC.
“There is a need for us to modify our approach,” Aniagwu explained. He emphasized that the decision to leave the PDP was essential to fostering development in the state, enhancing legal institutions, improving security and welfare for citizens, and ensuring that Delta’s progress is not hindered.
He further stated, “In making this decision, we recognized that departing from the PDP was crucial for us to work together and create a state that all Deltans can take pride in. We believe that the current situation within the PDP reflects a change in the quality of palm wine, necessitating a shift in our drinking company.”
Charles mentioned that the decision was reached unanimously by party leaders and stakeholders, suggesting a formal declaration would follow soon.
“By God’s grace, we will make an important announcement next Monday confirming our move to the APC,” he said.
This shift represents a significant moment in Delta State’s political landscape, indicating a larger political realignment that could alter party influence throughout the South-South region.
