Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, reached out to his counterpart in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Asue Ighodalo, shortly after the state tribunal confirmed his position as governor, urging them to set aside their political differences.
“The Governor appeals to all citizens, including opposition members and PDP candidate Asue Ighodalo, to unite and collaborate for the progress of Edo State,” Okpebholo stated.
“It is essential to move beyond partisan divides and concentrate on our shared aim of creating a brighter future for our State.”
A three-member panel led by Justice Wilfred Kpochi rejected the petition from the PDP and Ighodalo challenging the results of the September 21, 2024, governorship election.
The panel determined that the petitioners did not present credible witnesses to substantiate their claims of non-compliance with electoral regulations.
In light of the ruling, Governor Okpebholo, through a statement from Chief Press Secretary Fred Itua, expressed gratitude to the state’s residents for their unwavering support.
“This victory belongs to all citizens and residents of Edo State, not just me. It is a mandate to continue our efforts in building a state where everyone has opportunities to succeed. We remain dedicated to our promise of good governance, transparency, and inclusive development,” he emphasized.
“The administration of Governor Monday Okpebholo is committed to fulfilling its campaign promises and will not be sidetracked by baseless legal disputes. We are devoted to serving the people of Edo State with integrity and commitment.”
