Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central, expressed her gratitude to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Thursday for dismissing attempts by certain groups and individuals to recall her from the Senate.
She praised INEC for maintaining constitutional integrity and resisting pressure from what she referred to as ‘undemocratic elements’ within Kogi and the Senate. Her remarks followed INEC’s announcement that the recall petition did not fulfill constitutional requirements and consequently would not proceed.
In a statement released by her media team, Akpoti-Uduaghan lauded INEC for rejecting what she described as a ‘fake process’ orchestrated by those seeking her recall. She also took the opportunity to criticize former Governor Yahaya Bello and others for trying to undermine her resolve.
She stated, “God has embarrassed those anti-democratic forces, including former governor Yahaya Bello, who are scheming my recall. I’ve faced this with courage, supported by a God who never fails and by those who stand with me.
“The rejection of the recall effort is a victory for justice. INEC has demonstrated true independence, and this will be remembered in history. I commend the Commission for exposing those who operate in darkness and aligning with the laws of our nation.
“To God be the glory, we have triumphed again. This is yet another setback for those who resort to manipulation, election fraud, and violence, along with their associates in Kogi Central and beyond. Remember, your political days are numbered. I am committed to delivering justice for the oppressed and restoring greatness to Nigeria.”
