Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), has expressed openness to a political alliance with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), but insisted that such a move must be anchored on firm commitments.
Speaking while hosting Buhari Bakwana, a former political adviser to ex-Kano Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, alongside APC delegates from Kano’s 44 local government areas at his Miller Road residence, Kwankwaso recalled his central role in the founding of APC in 2013.
The former Kano governor said he and other leaders endured political persecution from agencies like the ICPC, EFCC, and the police to build the party into a national force.
“If you want us in APC, you must state clearly what NNPP stands to gain. We have candidates and full structures across the states. What will you offer them if we join?” he asked.
Kwankwaso also reflected on past political alliances, accusing both APC and PDP of reneging on agreements. He lamented that his sacrifices under Buhari’s APC administration yielded no recognition, and that PDP denied him even a zonal chairman position before he left.
While stressing NNPP’s readiness for fresh negotiations, Kwankwaso warned against being used and abandoned:
“We are prepared to work with APC under strong promises, but we will not allow anyone to use us and later dump us.”
