Former Senator representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), attributing his departure to the party’s failure to offer effective leadership and good governance to Nigerians.

In a resignation letter dated July 4, 2025, and posted on his verified X handle, Melaye addressed the PDP chairman in Ward 1, Aiyetoro Gbede, Ijumu LGA of Kogi State, announcing his immediate exit from all party activities.

“I am formally resigning from the Peoples Democratic Party at every level,” he wrote.

Melaye cited what he described as the party’s inability to tackle the pressing political problems undermining Nigeria’s development, stating that the PDP lacked the strength and capability to rescue the country from its current challenges.

Reflecting on his decision, the former Kogi governorship candidate noted, “After thorough consideration of the party’s condition, I find it impossible to continue supporting or participating in its agenda.”

He requested that his resignation be seen as a complete withdrawal from the PDP and all associated structures, effective immediately.

“I ask that this resignation be accepted as my full disengagement from all levels of party involvement,” the letter stated.

Concluding his message, Melaye thanked the PDP for the platform it provided during his political journey, expressing appreciation for the opportunity to serve.
