APC Convention 2026: Tinubu, Party Leaders Converge for Key Decisions

by Tunexreporters

Bola Ahmed Tinubu, members of the Federal Executive Council, 32 state governors, and over 8,400 delegates are expected in Abuja for the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Convention taking place Friday and Saturday. The high-profile gathering will also attract party leaders from across national, zonal, state, and ward levels, where new party executives are to be elected.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, disclosed this during a media briefing held at the Transcorp Hilton Abuja. He noted that the convention, themed “Unity in Progress: Consolidating the Renewed Hope Agenda,” reflects the party’s achievements and future direction.

According to Idris, the convention will serve as a platform for policy discussions, leadership elections, and strategic planning, while reinforcing the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He added that all arrangements have been finalized to ensure a smooth and transparent exercise at Eagle Square.

Chairman of the Convention Central Coordinating Committee, Aminu Bello Masari, affirmed that the party remains committed to its zoning structure and is unaware of any legal challenges affecting the event. He emphasized that party offices have been fairly distributed in line with federal character principles.

Despite this, some members have raised concerns over alleged exclusion from the process. A party chieftain, Fubara Dagogo, has filed a complaint over his omission from the South-South Zonal Congress, although he stated he would seek redress through internal party mechanisms rather than halt the convention.

Meanwhile, Taraba State Governor and Appeals Committee Chairman, Agbu Kefas, expressed confidence that the convention would proceed without disruption, noting that necessary measures are in place to address any challenges.
In preparation for the event, the Federal Government directed civil servants within the Federal Secretariat in Abuja to work from home due to road closures around the venue. Hotels across the capital have also recorded full bookings, as delegates and party supporters arrive in large numbers.

The convention is expected to shape the APC’s internal structure and set the tone for political strategies ahead of the 2027 general elections.
