The All Progressives Congress (APC) is set to hold its highly anticipated national convention in Abuja this Saturday, with party leaders expressing confidence in a smooth and successful exercise.

National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, alongside the Chairman of the Convention Central Coordinating Committee, Aminu Bello Masari, assured members that all logistics have been finalised to ensure a hitch-free event.
In preparation for the convention, Governor Biodun Oyebanji, who heads the screening committee, pledged a transparent and fair process anchored on equity and strict adherence to the party’s constitution and the Electoral Act.
About 7,200 delegates from across the 36 states and the FCT are expected at Eagle Square, the venue of the convention.

Speaking at a pre-event sanitation programme, Yilwatda—represented by Nze Chidi Duru—said the party remains focused on delivering a successful convention despite prevailing challenges. He acknowledged the difficulties associated with ongoing reforms but expressed optimism in the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that the benefits would soon become evident.
At the inauguration of the screening committee, the Deputy Secretary, Philip Shaibu, revealed that about 30 aspirants would be screened, with the exercise structured into three segments to ensure efficiency.

Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, who serves as co-chairman of the committee, described the screening as a critical test of the party’s internal democracy and future leadership direction.
Meanwhile, former Abia State Governor Orji Uzor Kalu praised the infrastructural efforts of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, describing them as impactful campaign tools. He added that his Renewed Hope Partners group is mobilising grassroots support and working with the City Boy Movement to strengthen the party’s reach, particularly in the South-East.

The convention is expected to reinforce party cohesion and shape the APC’s political strategy ahead of the 2027 general elections.
