President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has Recommended Dr. Taiwo Oyedele, Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, as Minister of State for Finance. His nomination has been forwarded to the Senate for confirmation.
Oyedele will replace Dr. Doris Anite-Uzoka, who has been redeployed to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning as Minister of State, marking her third ministerial assignment in the current administration. The President conveyed the nomination in a letter to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, according to a statement by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga.
Before his nomination, Oyedele led the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, inaugurated in August 2023 to restructure Nigeria’s tax system. Under his leadership, the committee drafted four executive bills that consolidated over 60 taxes into fewer than 10 laws. The reforms introduced major relief measures, including zero personal income tax for Nigerians earning ₦800,000 or less annually.
The Tax Reform Acts, which took effect on January 1, 2026, also exempt small businesses with annual turnovers below ₦50 million from company income tax, capital gains tax and development levies. Additional incentives include a 50 per cent tax deduction for companies hiring new workers for three years, similar deductions for wage increases to low-income employees, and a five-year corporate tax holiday for agricultural enterprises.
Oyedele holds qualifications from Yaba College of Technology and Oxford Brookes University, and completed executive programmes at leading global institutions. He spent 22 years at PricewaterhouseCoopers before heading the tax reform committee.
If confirmed, he will work alongside Finance Minister Wale Edun to oversee fiscal policy, revenue mobilisation and economic planning.
