President Bola Tinubu is currently holding a closed-door meeting with the Service Chiefs at the Presidential Villa, Aso Rock, Abuja.
The meeting is taking place this evening, with the nation’s security heads arriving at the Villa at about 6:01 p.m. local time before being ushered into the President’s office.
This is Tinubu’s first engagement with the military high command since the swearing-in of General Christopher Musa (retd.) as Minister of Defence on December 4.
Although the agenda of the meeting has not been officially disclosed, it is coming amid heightened security concerns across the country. Notably, 115 students abducted from a Catholic boarding school in November remain in captivity.
The meeting follows President Tinubu’s declaration of a national security emergency on November 26, during which he ordered fresh recruitment into security agencies and directed the withdrawal of police personnel attached to VIPs.
It also comes days after the Senate approved the President’s request to deploy Nigerian troops to Benin Republic following a recent attempted coup in the neighbouring country.
Details of the meeting are expected to emerge as discussions continue.
