As Nigeria celebrates her 65th Independence Anniversary, I, Hon. Pius Alile, Deputy Chief of Staff to the Edo State Government, extend my warmest congratulations to our great nation and its people on this auspicious occasion.
I salute the courage, resilience, and understanding demonstrated by Nigerians during the period of fuel subsidy removal. Though it has come with temporary pains, it remains a necessary sacrifice for the greater good of our country and for the building of a stronger economic foundation.
I must also commend His Excellency, Governor Monday Okpebholo, for his visionary leadership and unmatched commitment to infrastructural transformation in Edo State. From the construction of the first-ever ultra-modern flyover in Benin City, to the massive development of schools fully equipped with modern facilities, to increased subventions for Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma — the Governor has shown exemplary dedication. His administration’s bold efforts to end the menace of cult-related killings and the reactivation of moribund industries like Edo Line, once the pride of the South-South, remain laudable milestones.
Equally, at the federal level, I acknowledge the courageous economic policies of President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Today, we are beginning to see tangible results: the economy is stabilizing, inflation is gradually declining, investors are returning in their numbers, and landmark projects like the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and Sokoto-Badagri Highway promise to boost economic growth and national prosperity. The student loan scheme now in place ensures access to education for indigent students, while the era of incessant ASUU strikes has been halted.
This Independence Day should renew our faith in Nigeria. Together, with unity, patience, and collective resolve, we can build the Nigeria of our dreams. I believe in a prosperous Edo State, and in a greater Nigeria.
