In a major political shift in Edo State, the Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) alongside several key lawmakers, Leaders and supporters.
Announcing the defection at a well-attended rally, Speaker Agbebaku was joined by Hon. Yekini Idiaye, Hon. Roland Asoro, Hon. Okuarobo, Hon. Inumidun, and Hon. Gabriel Olorutobi and over 5000 supporters, He stated that the move reflects the legislators’ alignment with the developmental strides being undertaken by Governor Monday Okpebholo, emphasizing that they have been working closely with the administration and will continue to do so for the progress of the state.
“The roads are being constructed, schools are being rebuilt. We are witnessing positive change under the APC government.
The defection was received with enthusiasm by party leaders, including the APC State Chairman, who declared that “Edo is shining again,” and pointed to visible progress across the state. “A new Edo has risen under the leadership of Governor Monday Okpebholo. The APC is the only party capable of winning elections and transforming lives,” said National Secretary of the APC, Senator Ajibola Basiru.
In a strong endorsement of the governor’s leadership, former APC National Chairman and senator, Adams Oshiomhole, expressed regret over his 2016 support for the previous last administration calling it “a mistake.” He assured the people that under the APC, Edo would not return to what he described as eight years of misrule.
“The eighteen local government chairmen were oppressed under the last administration. Now, they are functioning effectively. The House of Assembly and the executive are now united. PDP’s candidate, Asuen, cannot take what God has not given him,” Oshiomhole added.

Governor Monday Okpebholo, who received the defectors, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to development and unity, saying, “This is a new dawn for Edo. Asiwaju 2027 is possible. The APC is the future.”
The Edo State APC Chairman described the defection as a death knell for the PDP in the state, saying, “This marks the end of PDP in Edo. Only remnants are left.”
