Global Afrobeats superstar Davido has taken on a new role — this time off the stage and into public service — as the Chairman of the Osun State Sports Trust Fund.
The Osun State Government said the move is aimed at transforming the state’s sports sector and attracting sustainable funding from both local and international partners. Confirming the appointment, Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi, who also doubles as the Commissioner for Sports, said Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration is on a mission to reposition sports in the state. Adewusi noted that renovation work is ongoing at the Osogbo Township Stadium, adding that the facility will meet Olympic standards once completed. He also revealed plans to set up the Osun State Sports Commission, which will oversee sports administration, policy, and development across the state.
On Davido’s appointment, the deputy governor said the singer eagerly accepted the role, expressing confidence that his influence and global connections would bring massive private-sector investment and renewed energy to Osun’s sports scene.
“Davido’s involvement will open new doors of funding and support that will positively impact Osun sports,” Adewusi said.
